Pope Francis has appealed for a renewal of the economy, in which everyone is guaranteed what is necessary and, above all, decent work. Together with the Encyclical Laudato sì on care for our common home, in the Encyclical Fratelli tutti, signed in Assisi, the Holy Father encourages a global vision of fraternity which, rooted in the one fatherhood of God, requires the growth of fraternal attitudes, reflected also in the structures that characterize social and economic life.

The Diocese of Assisi-Nocera Umbra-Gualdo Tadino has responded directly to this call of Pope Francis by instituting an annual award to be given to a specific project, initiated at the grassroots level, by persons, especially under the age of 35, entities or societies (such as education, care or recovery facilities), which looks to care for the most disadvantaged. The 2022 Award of a maximum Euro 50,000 will be conferred on the application deemed most worthy. A foulard, recalling the cloak with which the Bishop of Assisi covered the young Francis in his act of renunciation, and a plaque, bearing the images of Saint Francis of Assisi and Blessed Carlo Acutis. will also be awarded.
